Get your calendar’s ICS link

FREIGABE can read a calendar you publish as an iCalendar (.ics) feed and show its busy times across your other calendars. Here is how to find that link in the app you use, then paste it into FREIGABE.

Outlook on the web

The most reliable path for a Microsoft 365 or Outlook.com calendar.

  1. Open Outlook on the web and go to Settings → Calendar → Shared calendars.
  2. Under "Publish a calendar", pick the calendar you want and choose "Can view when I’m busy".
  3. Select Publish, then copy the ICS link it shows (the one ending in .ics).
  4. Paste that link into FREIGABE.

Outlook desktop

The desktop app reads the same mailbox, so the published link is created in Outlook on the web.

  1. In the desktop app, note which account holds the calendar (Microsoft 365 or Outlook.com).
  2. Sign in to Outlook on the web with that same account.
  3. Follow the Outlook on the web steps above to publish the calendar and copy its .ics link.
  4. Paste that link into FREIGABE.

Google Calendar

  1. Open Google Calendar on the web and go to Settings.
  2. Under "Settings for my calendars", choose the calendar you want.
  3. Scroll to "Integrate calendar" and copy the "Secret address in iCal format".
  4. Paste that address into FREIGABE. Keep it private, since anyone with it can read that calendar.

Apple Calendar

Works for an iCloud calendar you own.

  1. In the Calendar app, hover the calendar in the sidebar and open its share options.
  2. Turn on "Public Calendar" and copy the address it shows.
  3. If the address starts with webcal://, change that prefix to https:// before pasting.
  4. Paste the address into FREIGABE.

What a pasted feed does

  • FREIGABE reads only the busy times from a pasted feed and turns them into blocker events on your other calendars.
  • Nothing is written back to the pasted calendar; a feed is read-only.
  • The feed refresh is periodic, so a change can take a little while to appear rather than syncing the instant you make it.
  • Event titles, guests, and notes never leave the source calendar; only that you are busy is shared.

One more privacy note: if you publish a busy-only feed (Outlook’s “Can view when I’m busy” does exactly this), the event details never leave your calendar, so there is nothing for FREIGABE to strip or store. Google’s secret iCal address and Apple’s public share do include the details; from those, FREIGABE reads only the busy times and keeps the rest out.

If you would rather connect a Microsoft 365 account directly instead of pasting a feed, your organization’s Microsoft 365 admin may need to approve FREIGABE first, though a published calendar feed works without that approval.
